"Royalties" formed in 2003 by Ken Hogue (H-bomb) and Doug Flett (Czin), Two young hip hop heads who had been writin' and spittin' since the late 90's. They started recording, and performing songs around Edmonton Alberta, Canada working with many different producers, famous artists and rippin a mic at local shows and battles.
Then came the addition of Rek (Derek Mortensen) from Low Key to the Royal Family. Bringing years of music experience and a southern style flow to the table, Royalties are becoming a local powerhouse in the Indie Rap Industry.
They each contributed a song to the "I human Society's Down to the Grit CD in 2004." They were also invited to perform live for a half hour on CJSR radio by Dj Mumps.
While seeking to record their first album, they started running a Sunday night hip hop show at The Guilty Martini just off of Whyte Avenue in Edmonton Alberta, Canada.
After a year and a half, and many failed attempts to record their first album with local producers, they left for Victoria British Columbia, Canada for a week to record with a producer whose sound they were pleased with. They spent 12 hours a day for the whole week in the studio recording. Unfortunately after they returned home the producer took the money and ran and Royalties never received the final mixdown of the album.
In 2006 Royalties were introduced to "Jing from Darkson Tribe." Impressed with his high quality sound and skills as a producer they immediately started recording with him, Finally in October 2006 all the hard work paid off when they received the copies of their first album "Royal Flush".
Somewhere along the way on one of our Royal Adventures, we hooked up with....and hijacked one krazy funny ass dawg named OldDirtyHottie over at Old Dirty Media to help spread our Illustrious Royal Adventures across the world wide web for all of our Royal Fans to soak up and enjoy.
They started planning an official album release for New Year's Eve , and were hustling albums quick. In November they were invited to perform in Fort Macmurray Alberta, Canada by a promoter who got his hands on the album. Sales were booming and album money was stacking up higher than than the notches on Tiger's bed post!! It looked like The Royalties would have enough money for a video in no time.
After 3 months and many album sales they were throwing the album release party at a New Year's Eve Bash when their house burnt down and everything was lost......but never forgotten!!
